Feb. 18th 2010, John W. Kibler died after a massive heart attack. John was a Major League Baseball umpire from 1965-1989. He loved life and in life he loved baseball.
He always had a smile for everyone he met. That's the one thing we always heard when someone, anyone, described an encounter with our Dad. He always wanted to make all who crossed his path feel as if they mattered as much as the most "important" among us. From high school in Ft. Plains, NY, to the Navy (during the Korean Conflict) to the New York State Troopers, to stints as a volunteer with the Palm Beach Fire and Police departments, baseball is what drove him. When he was fortunate enough to have a career as an umpire, he counted himself amongst the luckiest people on earth.
In lieu of flowers, we ask in his honor, that any donations be made to the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T), to help those who have had a career in baseball and need assistance in their lives. He leaves behind a loving and deeply caring wife of 51 years (Dorothy) and two incredibly grateful sons (John, Jeff). Grateful to have had such a wonderful man as a father.
There will be no public memorial, but simply a private family ceremony, for he truly loved life and never wanted anyone to dwell on his passing. In Deep Appreciation, The Kibler Family There will be no public service and no flowers please.
